A glance at the Chevrolet Corvette CX Concept: The Arrival of Tomorrow's Automotive Technology
Chevrolet Unveils Futuristic CX Concept Supercar
At The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering event during Monterey Car Week, Chevrolet revealed the CX Concept, a high-performance electric supercar that showcases the brand's vision for the future of Corvette.
Power and Performance
The CX Concept boasts an all-wheel-drive system powered by four independent electric motors, one at each wheel, delivering a combined output of over 2,000 horsepower. A 90-kWh lithium-ion battery, mounted low in the chassis, ensures a low center of gravity and well-balanced weight distribution. The vehicle also features four-wheel torque vectoring for precise cornering and maximum grip.
Aerodynamic Design
Collaborating with the GM Motorsports Aero Group, the CX Concept's exterior is a sculpted aerodynamic body, optimized for downforce and performance. It includes a unique Vacuum Fan System that pulls air through the open body channels, generating massive downforce and improving aerodynamic balance dynamically. The design also features active aerodynamic components, including front and rear diffusers and adjustable wings, which respond to driving conditions for enhanced grip and stability.
Innovative Technologies
The CX Concept's windshield transforms into a digital windscreen, overlaying real-time performance data directly in the driver’s line of sight, functioning like a heads-up display (HUD) integrated with the windshield itself. The driver-centric cockpit includes Inferno Red ballistic textile seats designed for high-g cornering support, plus premium materials such as silicone leather, milled aluminum, and forged carbon fiber accents. Controls are elegantly integrated into the steering wheel to minimize driver distraction and maintain focus on driving.
Track-Focused Variant
A racing version of the CX Concept, called the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo, was also unveiled. This track-focused variant features a lower ride height, a big fixed rear wing, reworked aerodynamics, and racing suspension. The interior is stripped down, with a roll cage, racing seats, and racing harnesses installed. The CX.R Vision Gran Turismo will be available for virtual racing in the Gran Turismo racing game franchise.
The CX Concept is not a production vehicle but serves as a technological and design vision that will influence future Corvette models. The track-focused CX.R Vision Gran Turismo Concept underscores the blend of real-world and virtual innovation in Chevrolet’s performance strategy.
The CX Concept's steering wheel is replaced with a yoke in the racing version, and features a combination of touchscreen and physical controls. The interior of the CX Concept is designed with a bright red ballistic textile, mimicking the 1959 Chevrolet Sting Ray Concept. The vehicle runs on renewable fuel, with the V-8 alone allegedly making 900 hp and revving to 15,000 rpm.
