ACCIONA Leads €4M COMECOCO2 Project for Green Methanol in Maritime Sector
ACCIONA is involved in the COMECOCO2 project, aiming to develop a high-efficiency green methanol production system. The project, funded with nearly €4 million, combines CO2 capture and water vapor electrolysis with methanol conversion in a catalytic reactor. ACCIONA's role is to design and integrate the final methanol synthesis system in a Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP).
The COMECOCO2 project targets the maritime sector to reduce its carbon footprint. The innovative system is expected to achieve process efficiencies above 65% and reduce energy consumption by 25% compared to conventional methods. It will use CO2 from biogas and reclaimed water for co-electrolysis, making it a sustainable and efficient solution.
ACCIONA's involvement in the project is crucial. The company will study, design, install, and integrate the final methanol synthesis system in a WWTP. This will enable the production of green methanol using captured CO2 and reclaimed water, contributing to a cleaner maritime sector.
The COMECOCO2 project, with a total budget of nearly €4 million, is set to revolutionize green methanol production. By combining high-temperature co-electrolysis and methanol conversion, the project aims to achieve significant process efficiencies and energy savings. ACCIONA's role in designing and integrating the final methanol synthesis system in a WWTP is key to the project's success. The ultimate goal is to apply this system in the maritime sector, reducing its carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices.
