R/GA Accelerates AI-Powered Creative Innovation with Acquisition of Addition

In a strategic move to bolster its AI capabilities, R/GA, a renowned global digital agency, has acquired AI system design studio Addition. This acquisition, enabled through R/GA's Innovation Fund, marks a significant milestone in R/GA's post-independence growth, aiming to offer clients personalised, adaptive, and highly effective AI-enabled brand experiences.

R/GA's Global CEO, Robin Forbes, described the acquisition as a "long-term strategic investment," positioning the agency to lead the "Intelligence Age" by embedding AI deeply into its creative processes and scaling AI solutions globally.

Addition, with its 12-person team and network of AI experts, brings a very specialized, deep expertise in AI system design and development to R/GA. This expertise gives clients access to new, brilliant minds who are at the forefront of AI innovation, a rare talent pool.

Paul Aaron, CEO of Addition, stated that joining R/GA provides an opportunity to embed their approach to AI within a global and innovative company. Aaron and his team will join R/GA's global executive management team, reporting to Forbes, as well as chair and global chief creative officer Tiffany Rolfe, chief technology officer Nick Coronges, and chief strategy officer Melissa Jackson Parsey.

Addition has worked with notable clients such as Google, Amazon, NBCU, Unilever, Prudential, and The New York Times. After being sold by IPG and to a group of its leaders, with majority backing from private equity firm Truelink Capital, R/GA has made its first acquisition in its nearly 50-year history.

The two companies have already begun integrating their operations, allowing R/GA to design custom systems and tools for clients. Forbes mentioned that the acquisition allows R/GA to make such investments as a "distinct advantage of our independence" after being sold from IPG.

Regarding further acquisitions, while specific plans beyond Addition have not been detailed publicly, the establishment of the Innovation Fund explicitly supports ongoing investments in new talent, product development, partnerships, and strategic acquisitions that align with R/GA’s roadmap. This strongly suggests that R/GA intends to pursue additional acquisitions to expand capabilities and scale its AI and technology-driven offerings.

In summary, R/GA’s long-term strategy centers on leading AI-driven creativity through talent and technology acquisitions like Addition, with the Innovation Fund enabling further acquisitions to support this vision. Addition will continue to go to market with its independent offering while also lending its capabilities to R/GA more broadly, aiming to accelerate R/GA's leadership in AI-powered creative innovation.
