Advancements in racing vehicle technology finding their way onto everyday road vehicles
The GR Yaris, Toyota's compact rally car, is set to receive an aerodynamic upgrade with the introduction of the Aero Performance Package. Starting from October 1, 2025, this new addition will be available in Japan, offered by Toyota Gazoo Racing, a division of Toyota Motor Corporation specialising in motorsport and performance upgrades.
The Aero Performance Package is designed to enhance the vehicle's cornering stability, driving stability, and overall performance. It consists of six specific components, each playing a crucial role in optimising aerodynamics and reducing air resistance.
One of the key components is the ducted aluminum hood, based on Toyota's JRC experience, which improves air circulation and helps dissipate excess heat from the engine bay. The front lip spoiler, another component, reduces front lift, increasing tire grip at the front axle, contributing to driving stability and improving the balance between the front and rear axles.
The covered underbody, a feature of the Aero Performance Package, helps lower air resistance, while the fuel tank underbody cover ensures optimal airflow underneath the vehicle, further reducing air resistance. Rear quarter window air intakes are also included, designed to reduce air resistance and minimise the negative effect of the "parachute effect."
Fender air outlets, a notable addition, improve cornering stability, and the adjustable rear spoiler reduces body roll during heavy braking, helping increase vehicle stability at high speeds and improving handling. The adjustable rear spoiler is a significant feature of the Aero Performance Package, providing a customisable solution for different driving conditions.
Both the RC and RZ variants of the Aero Performance Package will be available, each compatible with an eight-speed racing automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. This upgrade is exclusive to Japan, offering enthusiasts a unique opportunity to enhance their GR Yaris driving experience.
With the introduction of the Aero Performance Package, the GR Yaris takes another step forward in performance and aerodynamics, promising an even more exciting driving experience for its owners.
