AI Enhancements Coming to Windows 11: A New Feature in Snipping Tool Piques Interest for Integrated AI Assistant

Windows 11 users, especially those with Copilot+ PCs, are in for a treat with the latest update that brings a host of powerful AI features. These new additions, accessible through built-in apps and natural language commands, aim to make Windows 11 more intuitive, creative, and productive.

AI Integration in Core Workflows

The update introduces an AI-powered agent to the Settings app on Copilot+ PCs. This agent, based on the Mu language model, allows users to describe desired changes in natural language, such as "enable quiet hours" or "connect Bluetooth headphones." The agent then performs one-click actions to adjust hundreds of display, connectivity, and accessibility options, interacting with system APIs behind the scenes.

Other system apps also receive enhancements. The Snipping Tool now includes a "perfect screenshot" feature that uses AI to capture exactly the content you want, and a color picker tool is added for more precise selections. Microsoft Paint gets a sticker generator, allowing users to create stickers on the fly by prompts.

Productivity Boosters

Click to Do, a preview feature offering context-aware actions on any text or image on screen, now includes tools like Practice in Reading Coach, Read in Immersive Reader, and Draft with Copilot in Word. These features aim to help with productivity tasks by providing reading assistance and AI-powered writing support.

Photos App and Copilot Vision

Copilot+ PCs powered by Snapdragon processors will soon receive the Photos App's Relight Tool, which allows adding up to three virtual light sources to photos for realistic portrait relighting, simulating professional lighting effects.

Additionally, Copilot Vision, an AI tool that analyses screen content to provide contextual help for tasks and apps, is now available in the U.S. It can guide you on how to carry out activities or give suggestions within games and browsers.

Accessing the New Features

To access these features, ensure your PC is upgraded to Windows 11 and is a Copilot+ device. Update Windows 11 to the latest release (post-July 2025 update). Open the Settings app and try describing your desired adjustments in natural language in the search or command box to invoke the AI agent. Use the updated system apps as needed.

These enhancements are rolling out gradually through controlled feature rollout (CFR). Some features, like the Mu agent in Settings, are exclusive to Copilot+ PCs, with Snapdragon-powered devices receiving certain features earlier than Intel/AMD systems.

As Windows 11 users receive these AI features over the coming weeks, they can look forward to a more seamless and efficient computing experience.
