Alpha Trains Expands Fleet with 15 Siemens Vectron Dual Mode Locomotives

Alpha Trains has ordered 15 more Vectron Dual Mode locomotives from Siemens Mobility, expanding its fleet. This order is part of the framework agreement signed between the two companies in July 2024.

The new locomotives will join Alpha Trains' existing fleet of Vectron AC, MS, and Dual-Mode models. They offer a maximum power output of 2.4 megawatts in electric mode and 2 megawatts in diesel mode, enabling speeds of up to 160 km/h.

The Vectron Dual-Mode's versatility allows it to operate on both electrified and non-electrified tracks. This operational flexibility reduces emissions by replacing older diesel engines. The locomotives will be produced at Siemens Mobility's plant in Munich-Allach and are intended for use in Germany and Austria.

Vincent Pouyet, CEO of the Locomotives business area at Alpha Trains, sees this expansion as a step towards the future, offering intelligent and sustainable solutions for customers. The service contract signed in 2023 between Alpha Trains and Siemens Mobility also covers the maintenance of these new locomotives.

Alpha Trains' order of 15 Vectron Dual Mode locomotives from Siemens Mobility demonstrates a commitment to modernising and greening its fleet. These versatile locomotives will enhance Alpha Trains' service offerings in Germany and Austria, backed by Siemens Mobility's maintenance support.
