Forest Hills Stadium Installs L-Acoustics L Series Sound System for Improved Sound Quality and Noise Control

New York City's Forest Hills Stadium in the Queens borough has installed a semi-permanent L-Acoustics L Series sound system, providing a significant improvement in balancing live event sound quality with community noise concerns.

The L Series system, known for its precision and noise control, offers several key benefits. Firstly, its advanced line array technology ensures focused audio coverage, directing sound precisely towards the audience areas, reducing unwanted sound leakage outside the venue. This spatial control helps maintain clear audio for attendees without disturbing nearby residents.

Secondly, the system delivers high-quality, consistent sound throughout the stadium, ensuring all parts of the audience receive balanced audio. This means less volume is needed overall to achieve good clarity.

Thirdly, the system's sophisticated processing enables quick adjustments suitable for varying show requirements while respecting local noise regulations, thus mitigating community noise impacts.

These capabilities have allowed Forest Hills Stadium to host live music events with powerful, immersive sound experiences while addressing the common community concerns about loud noise pollution during concerts.

Tim Fraleigh, Firehouse Productions' system engineer, credits the improvement to the L2's cardioid design and L-Acoustics Soundvision software. Fraleigh is joined by Steve Gordon, Account Manager at Firehouse Productions, who has a background as a touring production manager. They both praise the L2 system's "cohesiveness" as the key to its suitability for Forest Hills Stadium's situation.

Bryan Berge, Production Manager for Function of Gravity, found that the L2 system significantly lowered measured sound levels without reducing perceived impact. Legendary live-sound guru Dave Rat recommended the L Series for its sonic quality and compact form factor with greater sound control.

The main arrays of the sound system consist of two L2 speakers and a single L2D per side. Each main array is flanked by an out-fill hang of one L2D. The setup includes 16 KS28 subs, four LA7.16, and three LA12X amplified controllers. Fill sound is supplied by 20 Kara II loudspeakers.

Concertgoers are celebrating after being granted permits for this year's shows at Forest Hills Stadium. Off-site sound levels are measuring 10 to 15dB lower than last year's system, a testament to the L Series system's effectiveness in noise control.

The sound system was provided and managed by Firehouse Productions, ensuring a seamless and high-quality audio experience for all attendees. With the L-Acoustics L Series sound system in place, Forest Hills Stadium is well-equipped to continue hosting successful live music events while maintaining a positive relationship with its surrounding community.

  1. Forest Hills Stadium utilizes headphones to allow sound technicians to monitor the sound quality during live events, ensuring precision and a balanced audio experience.
  2. In addition to speakers, the L-Acoustics L Series sound system at Forest Hills Stadium includes gadgets like the LA12X amplified controllers and the Soundvision software, boosting sound quality and facilitating noise control.
  3. The improved acoustics at Forest Hills Stadium has attracted more entertainers, as artists recognize the venue's commitment to using technology like the L2 speakers to reduce noise pollution and enhance sound quality for attendees.
  4. While attendees enjoy the live sound emanating from the speakers at Forest Hills Stadium, advances in technology like the Kara II loudspeakers also provide fill sound, ensuring even audio coverage for all parts of the audience.
