Next-Generation Xbox Console and Asus Xbox-branded ROG Ally Handheld Consoles Set for October Release

In a series of leaks and industry rumours, it appears that Microsoft is gearing up to release a new next-generation Xbox console and two handheld consoles under the Asus Xbox-branded ROG Ally line.

According to reliable sources, the Asus Xbox-branded ROG Ally handheld consoles are expected to be released on October 16, 2025. Preorders for these devices are scheduled to open on August 20, 2025, coinciding with Xbox’s presence at Gamescom 2025 during a live broadcast.

The leaks about the release date come from the French site Dealabs and a Spanish Asus distributor. The confirmed release date applies initially to the European market, with the possibility of a simultaneous launch in other regions, although this is not yet fully confirmed.

The pre-order prices are expected to be around €599 for the ROG Xbox Ally and €899 for the higher-end ROG Xbox Ally X. Regional price variations outside Europe may occur due to tariffs and inflation. The Xbox Ally X features more powerful hardware, including 24GB RAM and 1TB NVMe SSD, compared to the standard model’s 16GB RAM and 512GB storage.

The next-generation Xbox console, speculated to be aiming at competing with PCs rather than the PS6, is rumoured to feature an AMD chip that doubles the performance of the PS5 Pro. However, its exact specifications remain unknown.

The focus on PC competition may signal a move towards a more open and flexible gaming ecosystem. This shift in strategy from previous console generations could raise questions about the gaming library and compatibility with PC games.

It's worth noting that the information about the next-generation Xbox console and the Asus Xbox-branded ROG Ally handheld consoles is currently based on leaks and speculation, as no official announcement has been made by Microsoft.

Both the Asus Xbox-branded ROG Ally and ROG Ally X handheld consoles will have access to an aggregated gaming library and other PC stores like Steam. They will also run on a custom version of Windows 11 featuring a full-screen Xbox interface.

Stay tuned for more updates as we approach Gamescom 2025, where Microsoft is expected to announce more details about the next-generation Xbox console and the Asus Xbox-branded ROG Ally handheld consoles.
