Apple Intelligence Gain Feedback from Initial Experiences of iPhone, Mac, and iPad Users
In a groundbreaking move, Apple has unveiled Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI capabilities deeply integrated into its latest operating systems. The first update of these features is now available as a free software update for iOS 18.1, macOS Sequoia 15.1, and iPadOS 18.1, bringing a more natural and conversational Siri, systemwide writing tools, an AI-enhanced Photos app, and an AI-powered notifications experience to users worldwide.
The writing tools, available across Notes, Pages, Mail, and other text apps, assist in proofreading (spelling, grammar, punctuation), rewriting with different tones (Friendly, Professional, Concise, and more advanced open-ended rewrites in macOS Sequoia 15.2), and summarizing text with key points or tl;dr summaries.
Smart Replies enable contextually relevant, AI-generated reply suggestions for messages, making communication more efficient. Notification Summaries introduce AI-generated summaries for notifications, helping users to better organize information and stay on top of their tasks.
Enhanced Siri is more natural and conversational, with stronger language parsing and new gesture and text interaction options. The update also includes improvements to the Photos app, with new AI capabilities for managing and interacting with images.
AI-powered Notifications improve how alerts and messages are handled through intelligence features. In the Notes app, users can now record, transcribe, and summarize audio, making note-taking more convenient than ever.
The Priority Messages feature in Mail highlights urgent emails at the top of the inbox, ensuring that important messages are never missed. iPad users appreciate the new writing and summary tools in apps like Notes and Mail, while iMac users find the customizable Siri icons and improved organization features helpful.
Additional features added in later updates (iOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2) include Genmoji (AI-generated emojis), Image Playground and Image Wand for creative image generation and editing, Visual Intelligence, and integration of ChatGPT with Siri.
Apple Intelligence is enabled by default on supported devices but can be managed or disabled via system settings or Mobile Device Management (MDM) tools in enterprise contexts. This update marks a significant step forward in leveraging advanced AI technologies uniformly across iPhone, iPad, and Mac platforms, expanding user productivity and interaction.
