Apple Introduces Exclusive Limited-Edition AirTag, However, Purchase is Unavailable
If it appears as if it's only been a year since Apple introduced a unique AirTag edition to celebrate the Japanese New Year, then that's precisely the case. Initially, it featured an amusing illustration of a joyful dragon. Now, for the upcoming Year of the Snake, an entertaining picture of a winking serpent has been introduced.
Before you make an attempt to acquire one, allow me to adjust your expectations slightly. They're exclusively offered in Japan, with a limited availability of 50,000 units. They're part of the New Year campaign in Japan, recently announced by Apple and observed by MacRumors.
The event also includes Apple gift cards of various worths for products ranging from Beats earbuds to Apple Watches.
Three iPhone models are included in the deal, each accompanied by a gift card of up to ¥11,000 with the purchase. The iPhone models are the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, and iPhone SE. The latest iPhone 16 models are not included in the promotion.
And for the first 50,000 individuals to purchase one of these iPhones, the Year of the Snake AirTag is also included. It won't be available for separate purchase, as Apple often structures such offers.
The serpent is the fourth consecutive special-edition AirTag. The 2022 tag was a tiger, 2023 a rabbit, this year a dragon and now a snake for 2025.
All have been charmingly fun and unmistakably in the Animoji design style—clear and stark enough for simple, one-color engraving, but characterful, approachable, and cheekily smile-inducing.
The offer has expanded over the years: in January 2022, it lasted for two days, and there were only 20,000 Year of the Tiger AirTags available.
This time around, the offer extends for a longer period, from Friday, Jan. 2 through to Monday, Jan. 5. The gift cards range in value from ¥6,000 ($38) right up to ¥30,000 ($190) for the appropriate MacBook Air. These figures are higher than the ones available during the first year of the promotion, too.
As expected, the offers are only accessible in Japan, through the Japanese Apple website and instore.
