Apple unveils initial roster of 'Viet Nam-made' products, increases local manufacturing contribution
Apple Expands Production in Vietnam, Contributing to 20% of Global Supply Chain by 2025
HANOI—Apple has revealed the list of its products being manufactured and assembled in Vietnam, as part of an expanded supply chain employee training program, according to the Industry and Trade Newspaper. Key partners including Foxconn, BYD, Goertek, Lens, Yuto, and Innovation are among the companies involved in Apple's operations in the Southeast Asian country.
Vietnam is now contributing to the production of several flagship devices, such as the iPad, Mac (MacBook and Mac mini), HomePod, Apple Watch, and AirPods. Notably, the 2024 carbon-neutral Mac mini, Apple's first, is also being produced in Vietnam. However, the iPhone has yet to be included on this list.
By the end of 2025, Vietnam is predicted to account for 20% of global production of iPads and Apple Watches, 5% of MacBooks, and up to 65% of AirPods. In Apple's Q1 2025 financial report, CEO Tim Cook confirmed that while most iPhones sold in the US are now made in India, other devices originate primarily from Vietnam.
The number of Apple suppliers with factories or offices in Vietnam has risen from 27 to 35 as of April 2024, making Vietnam Apple's largest manufacturing base in Southeast Asia and the fourth-largest globally. Firms like Fukang Technology (a Foxconn subsidiary) have launched iPad and MacBook assembly lines in the Bắc Giang Province, while Foxconn operates across five localities in Vietnam, employing around 80,000 workers and investing a total of US$4 billion.

In addition to production expansion, Apple also announced plans to double the number of training courses offered to supply chain employees in Vietnam. These programs include specialised modules in robotics and application programming, aiming to enhance the skills and technical capabilities of the local workforce.
Recent reporting indicates that Vietnam's role in Apple's global production has grown rapidly, with projections suggesting that by the end of 2025, Vietnam will account for 20% of Apple's global supply chain. While most production of Apple products for non-US markets remains in China, Vietnam has become a crucial node for Apple's diversification and risk management strategy.
