Apple's upcoming iOS 26, dubbed "Liquid Glass," may surpass Google's Material 3 in terms of innovation, potentially marking a significant shift in the mobile industry.

Revamped Apple Experience with "Liquid Glass" Design

Brace yourselves! Apple is rumored to pull off a major overhaul of all its operating systems, aiming for a fresh, transparent, and modern look––a change not seen in over a decade. This transformation is set to be unveiled today at WWDC 2025, swinging open the door to the next generation of macOS, iOS, iPadOS, and more.

The tech giant is reportedly diving deep into a "dramatic" visual redesign, making extensive use of the futuristic "Liquid Glass" design language previously showcased in the Apple Vision Pro headset. According to Mark Gurman at Bloomberg, this new design gives Apple's UI a modern take on the glassy surface elements it first introduced with the Aqua interface in Mac OS X, infusing transparency and shine effects in controls, toolbars, and in-app interfaces.

It's not just the iPhone software that's getting a makeover. Apple's entire software ecosystem will don the new design, encompassing iOS 26, iPadOS, tvOS, watchOS, macOS, and CarPlay. Users can expect an update rollout in the autumn, with select changes revealed during the Apple event later today.

The new interface will feature translucent glass-like elements, making apps more visually engaging and creating a sense of depth and fluidity. The navigation and control systems are getting revamped, too, with subtle Pop-out menus replacing traditional drop-down lists. Toolbars and tab bars will be more transparent and concentric with the display, fitting new hardware shapes better.

Hardware improvements aren't left by the wayside. The upcoming 20th anniversary iPhone will reportedly boast curved glass sides encircling the entire display, ultra-slim bezels, and no Dynamic Island or notch. Apple internally calls the new phone "Glasswing," reminiscent of a butterfly with transparent wings, slated to be one of the 2027 refresh devices.

So gear up for a major transformation in the Apple user interface, making Apple devices even more distinct from Google’s platforms. This change could shape the tech world for the next decade, leaving behind the iOS 7 overhaul carried out way back in 2013. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates during the Apple event later today!
