Arnsberg Firefighters Complete ABC Training with Realistic Final Exercise

The Arnsberg Fire Department recently concluded its ABC news training course with a large-scale final exercise. The course, led by a dedicated team including Werner Franke and Tobias Jakob, equipped 12 participants with vital skills to handle atomic, biological, or chemical hazardous materials.

Over two weeks, participants attended theoretical instruction at the main fire station in Neheim and practical exercises at ALS-Logistics in Voßwinkel. They learned to locate, measure, detect, collect, and pump out hazardous materials using various devices and systems. The course also covered the use of a chemical protective suit and decontamination procedures.

The final exercise simulated an accident involving a pallet jack and two 1,000-liter tanks. Participants had to rescue an injured person and implement containment measures. A drone was employed for further reconnaissance, transmitting real-time aerial images to commanding officers. After successfully stopping, collecting, and pumping out the released hazardous material, the exercise concluded.

All 12 participants successfully completed the ABC news training course, passing their theoretical exam. The training team expressed satisfaction with the participants' performance throughout the course. The Arnsberg Fire Department is now better equipped to handle ABC emergencies, thanks to the commitment of the instructors and the dedication of the course participants.
