Artificial Intelligence Education Backed by AfDB to Propel Agenda 2063 Advancements
In Lusaka, Zambia, the 5th Annual Training Workshop for African Union Member States took place, with a focus on harnessing Artificial Intelligence (AI) for effective monitoring, evaluation, and reporting on the Second Ten-Year Plan (2024-2033) of Agenda 2063.
The workshop, jointly organised by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), aimed to strengthen the technical capabilities of African states in deploying AI platforms. Participants learned practical applications of these AI tools, such as ChatGPT, Google AI Studio, Google Gemini, Ailyse, and Perplexity, to enhance data analysis, improve evidence-based policymaking, and enable better tracking and reporting on Agenda 2063 goals.
The African Development Bank (AfDB) played a key role in promoting AI training initiatives to support the implementation of Africa's Agenda 2063. Through its Joint Secretariat Support Office (JSSO), the AfDB provided both technical and financial backing for the capacity building workshop.
The AfDB's support for the workshop reinforces its commitment to strengthening results-based planning, monitoring, and accountability within the African Union framework. By advancing AI-enabled solutions, the AfDB seeks to improve decision-making, resource allocation, and accountability in governance. The Bank’s support also fosters peer learning and knowledge exchange among member states, amplifying best practices in digital innovation for Africa's development agenda.
The training is part of broader efforts to enhance institutional and human capacity across the continent. Abibu Tamu, the African Development Bank Group's Lead Programme Co-ordinator, reaffirmed the Bank's dedication to working closely with the African Union Commission and strategic partners to accelerate the implementation of Agenda 2063's Second Ten-Year Implementation Plan.
Abibu Tamu stated that AI tools are revolutionising data collection, analysis, and reporting, and enabling more targeted policy interventions and efficient resource allocation. The workshop provided a platform for peer learning and knowledge exchange, with participating countries sharing innovative approaches and best practices in national development planning and results-based reporting.
In summary, the AfDB's role centers on capacity building through AI training workshops that empower African Union members to leverage AI technologies for robust monitoring and implementation of Agenda 2063, reinforcing innovation, digital transformation, and results-based planning across the continent.
