ASICS Extends its Blast Running Shoe Line with Innovative Foam and Introduces Two Fresh Design Styles

Asics, a renowned name in the world of running shoes, is making waves with the launch of its latest additions to the "Blast" family lineup: the SonicBlast and MegaBlast. These innovative models, set to hit the market on September 1, offer runners a noticeably responsive, plush, and lightweight experience tailored to different training needs.

The SonicBlast: Speed and Comfort in Harmony

The SonicBlast, with its balanced combination of speed and comfort, is a daily trainer designed for runners seeking a fast-paced, comfortable ride. The shoe features a top layer of FF Blast Max foam, a middle layer of FF Turbo Squared foam, and a ¾-length Pebax-based Astroplate. This layered foam and plate system offers a propulsive feel without the stiffness often associated with carbon plates, delivering sonic speed with comfort.

Weighing approximately 9.05 oz / 257g for men's size 9, the SonicBlast boasts a rockered midsole design that mimics natural foot rollover, enhancing energy return. Advanced traction is ensured via the ASICSGRIP™ outsole, making the SonicBlast suitable for varied terrains, including wet or muddy conditions. The shoe's upper is a simplistic and breathable jacquard design, complete with a soft collar lining and padded tongue for added comfort. The SonicBlast retails at $180.

The MegaBlast: Maximum Bounce and Lightweight Cushioning

The MegaBlast, described as the ultimate expression of bounce by Asics, is a game-changer for runners seeking maximum energy return in a highly responsive trainer. The shoe's unique feature is the exclusive use of FF Turbo Squared foam, an innovative A-TPU foam that is 32.5% bouncier, 9.6% softer, and 2.8% lighter than the original FF Turbo foam.

With a full-length midsole made entirely of FF Turbo Squared foam, the MegaBlast delivers a trampoline-like energetic feel with amplified energy return. The shoe's weight of approximately 7.89 oz / 224g for men's size 9 makes it significantly lighter than other "blast" family models. The MegaBlast does not include a plate, focusing instead on providing a bouncy and responsive ride.

The MegaBlast's upper is inspired by racing uppers but structured for everyday training. It offers breathable lockdown, training shoe benefits such as a pull tab and collar for increased comfort, and is priced at $225. The shoe features a rockered sole design that supports foot roll-through for a lively stride and a 46mm stack in the rear and a 38mm stack in the forefoot for maximum energy return.

A New Lineup for a New Era of Running

The new Blast lineup, which also includes the long-distance-ready SuperBlast, represents a hierarchy with the NovaBlast as the entry, followed by the SonicBlast, the SuperBlast, and finally, the MegaBlast. Asics' new ATPU foam, known for its lightweight and bouncy resiliency, is at the heart of these innovative models.

Both the SonicBlast and MegaBlast feature the tackiest rubber Asics uses on trail models for enhanced grip, ensuring a secure footing on various surfaces. The new models are part of the Blast franchise and are expected to attract a lot of attention due to their weight-to-stack ratio and bounce.

Asics is thrilled with the new lineup, stating that everyone has shown up and they are ready to go with these four shoes. The brand believes that the new lineup provides the "energized type of runner" with new options, catering to the growing demand for a greater running experience through shoes. Asics expects the NovaBlast to be one of the top shoes globally by 2026.

In summary, the Asics SonicBlast and MegaBlast offer runners a range of bounce and energy return for enhanced running dynamics. The SonicBlast, with its balanced combination of speed and comfort, is suitable for speedy daily training, while the MegaBlast delivers the most bounce and lightweight cushioning for runners seeking maximum energy return in a highly responsive trainer. The new Blast lineup represents a significant step forward in Asics' commitment to providing runners with innovative, high-performance shoes that cater to a wide range of training needs.

In the realm of technology and sports, Asics' SonicBlast and MegaBlast are named among the best running shoes of 2025, showcasing advanced gadgetry within the realm of sports gear. The SonicBlast, with its layered foam and plate system, offers a balance of speed and comfort for daily training, while the MegaBlast, wielding exclusive FF Turbo Squared foam, promises maximum bounce and lightweight cushioning. As these new shoes hit the market, they join the ranks of football gadgetry, bringing a surge in the sports tech industry.
