Athletic community buzzes about Meta Oakley Vanguard, latest essential gear for athletes

The Meta Oakley Vanguard, a new vanguard smart glasses designed for athletes, is making waves in the tech world. Developed in partnership between Meta and Oakley, the vanguard offers a unique blend of style, performance, and functionality, priced at €549.

One of the standout features of the vanguard is its noise-cancelling capability. Even at speeds over 30 km/h, the vanguard allows the user to hear music or chat clearly, thanks to its advanced noise-sensitive design. This feature sets it apart from its predecessors, as it is significantly more noise-sensitive, capable of filtering out more ambient noise.

The vanguard also boasts a 12-megapixel, 122-degree wide-angle camera, equipped with Athletic Intelligence. This feature activates the cameras automatically when detecting unusual activity, keeping the user's hands free for other tasks. The glasses can be connected with devices like Garmin and Strava, which can then be voice-controlled via Meta AI.

The vanguard offers six decibels more volume than the Meta Oakley HSTN, ensuring an immersive audio experience for the user. The red-tinted lenses on the vanguard can help better identify objects, making it a useful tool for athletes on the move.

The design of the vanguard could also suit street style, not just hobbyist and professional athletes. The glasses come in three sizes and various colours for the classic, sporty visor and frame. For skiers or snowboarders, the white frame with golden lenses on the vanguard is ideal for contrasting snow.

The vanguard is water-resistant, with an IP67 equivalent rating, making it safe for use in small pools but not for deep-sea diving. The glasses have a battery life of up to nine hours, with six hours of continuous music playback. The charging case for the vanguard provides an additional 36 hours of battery life, and 20 minutes of charging gives a half-charged pair.

At a Meta Oakley vanguard preview event, the author had the opportunity to test the glasses. Travel costs were covered by Meta, but there were no guidelines given for the nature or extent of the coverage.

The vanguard also offers video recording capabilities, with options for slow-motion videos and hyperlapse. It can record videos in 3K, providing high-quality footage for athletes to review their performance.

In addition to providing real-time statistics and notifications, the vanguard can also connect with health apps like Garmin Connect, Apple Health, or Android's Health Connect. This connection sends activity summaries directly to the Meta AI app, providing users with a comprehensive view of their fitness journey.

Asking Meta AI about your current pulse is also possible when connected with Garmin or similar devices. This feature adds another layer of convenience to the already impressive vanguard smart glasses.

With its advanced features, stylish design, and versatile applications, the Meta Oakley vanguard is set to revolutionise the smart glasses market. Whether you're a professional athlete, a fitness enthusiast, or simply someone who appreciates cutting-edge technology, the vanguard is definitely worth considering.
