Audiobooks and credits on iOS for Spotify are experiencing significant growth.

Spotify has seen a substantial increase in subscriptions for audiobook purchases and top-up credits, as well as for music and podcasts, following the release of a new app update. The update complies with the latest Apple guidelines and enables the incorporation of external links and buttons that direct users to payment methods outside of the App Store.

In a statement, Spotify revealed that the conversion rate from the Free to Premium tier service has significantly increased among iOS users since the update. The company attributes this growth to Apple's compliance with a federal court injunction, issued in its legal battle with Epic Games, which mandates that Apple must permit developers to steer users towards alternative payment options without commission fees.

The updated Spotify app for iOS now displays pricing details, promotional information, and a link allowing users to subscribe via Safari. It also facilitates the purchase of audiobooks within the app, a feature that was previously unavailable.

Michael Kozlowski, editor-in-chief at a well-known platform, has written extensively about audiobooks and e-readers for the past fifteen years. His work has been featured on various reputable outlets such as the CBC, CNET, Engadget, Huffington Post, and the New York Times. Kozlowski resides in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

This shift in payment mechanisms on iOS represents a major change, reducing Apple's control over in-app payments and allowing Spotify and other services to offer more flexible pricing and payment options to their users. This change has opened up new avenues for monetization on iOS, as outlined by similar moves made by companies like Amazon Kindle.

  1. Michael Kozlowski, an editor-in-chief known for his work on audiobooks and e-readers, may soon write about Spotify's new business strategy, as the updated Spotify app for iOS now offers a direct link for users to subscribe via Safari, and includes the purchase of audiobooks within the app – a feature previously unavailable, following the company's move to embrace external payment methods due to Apple's compliance with a federal court injunction.
  2. As Spotify continues to capitalize on this change in payment mechanisms on iOS, the company could potentially expand its offerings to include more digital content, such as e-books, as seen with Amazon Kindle, further diversifying its revenue streams and giving users more options in the realm of technology and finance.
