AvtoVAZ's Lada Azimut Crossover Set for 2026 Launch

AvtoVAZ is gearing up for the 2026 launch of the Lada Azimut crossover, based on the popular Vesta model. The Vesta, introduced a decade ago, has seen significant updates and changes in its production and powertrain. Initially produced at the Izhevsk plant, the Vesta moved to Tolyatti in 2023. It was the first AvtoVAZ car to use a 1.8-liter engine, though early units suffered from excessive oil consumption due to design flaws. The engine issue was later addressed. The Vesta's body design, created by British specialist Steve Mattin, was initially offered in three variants: sedan, station wagon, and crossover station wagon. In 2018, a sporty Vesta Sport version with 145 horsepower was introduced, but its production is currently suspended. The Vesta is built on a special platform developed by AvtoVAZ engineers. It initially used a Russian-made 'robot' transmission, later replaced by a Chinese-made WLY variator. An updated Vesta family was announced in 2022, with mass production starting at the Tolyatti plant in the same year. The Lada Azimut crossover, based on the Vesta, is expected to hit the market by 2026. With a decade of production and several updates under its belt, the Vesta continues to evolve, setting the stage for the upcoming Azimut.
