MSR Hubba Hubba LT 2-Person Backpacking Tent: A Lightweight and Spacious Upgrade
Mountain Safety Research (MSR) has unveiled the latest iteration of their iconic Hubba Hubba tent series, the Hubba Hubba LT 2-Person Backpacking Tent. This new model offers several key features and improvements over the Hubba Hubba NX, making it an ideal choice for two-person backpacking trips where comfort and ease of use are priorities.
The Hubba Hubba LT 2 boasts a lightweight design, with a trail weight around 3 lbs (48 oz). This is achieved through the use of 15-denier ripstop nylon for the canopy and rainfly, and 30-denier ripstop nylon for the floor, providing a balance between lightweight design and durability.
One of the standout improvements in the Hubba Hubba LT 2 is its increased interior space. The tent features a rectangular floor plan with vertical sidewalls, a departure from the more tapered design of the NX. This change enhances livability and makes it easier for two people to move around.
The Hubba Hubba LT 2 also features dual doors with vestibules on each side, a thoughtful design choice that keeps rain from dripping inside when unzipping wet vestibule doors. These vestibules are equipped with rain gutters, adding to the tent's weather-friendly design.
The pole structure of the Hubba Hubba LT 2 employs a single hubbed pole set with optimized diameters (8.05/8.5 mm), contributing to slightly more stability and ease of setup. The tent's freestanding double-wall design and rectangular footprint facilitate quick pitching and better space utilization.
The interior of the Hubba Hubba LT 2 is designed with livability in mind. Vertical walls, breathable nylon mesh canopy panels, and a spacious interior enhance ventilation and reduce the risk of condensation compared to the more weight-focused NX model.
Other notable improvements include upgraded corner hardware to metal components for increased durability, internal wall pockets with cable ports for neat charging of devices like mobile phones and smartwatches, and the use of lightweight and sturdy 'mini groundhog' stakes.
The Hubba Hubba LT, a substantially reconfigured version of the Hubba Hubba, will be available from January 2026, with 1-person, 2-person, and 3-person versions available. The main tent is made mostly from solution-dyed micromesh, providing excellent breathability and bug protection.
