Belarus' EV Market Surges to 25% Share, Tesla's Affordability Key Factor
Belarus is witnessing a significant shift in its automotive market, with electric vehicles (EVs) gaining a quarter of the market share as of October 1, 2025. This rate is higher than the global average, marking a notable achievement for the country.
Tesla has played a significant role in this transition by introducing more affordable versions of its Model 3 and Model Y in the Standard trim. The base Model Y Standard in the US now costs $39,990, a $5,000 reduction from the previous Premium RWD version. This move has likely made Tesla's offerings more accessible to Belarusian consumers.
Yuri Grigorenko, an expert in the field, predicts that the number of cars in Belarus could reach 300,000 in the next five years, with a significant portion being electric vehicles. To achieve this, Grigorenko suggests preserving current benefits and increasing investment in charging infrastructure. The state plans to support this growth by boosting the installed capacity of charging infrastructure from 42 MW to 310 MW by 2030, a sevenfold increase. If successful, electric transport consumption in Belarus could reach around 1.5 billion kWh by 2030.
The increasing popularity of electric vehicles in Belarus, driven by factors such as Tesla's affordability and the government's supportive plans, signals a promising future for sustainable transportation in the country. With the right investments and policies, Belarus aims to significantly increase its electric vehicle fleet within the next five years.
