BMW's First Electric X5, iX5, Coming in 2026
BMW is set to expand its X5 lineup with a major addition: the all-electric iX5. This marks the first time an electric version, a model y competitor, will be available in the series. The new X5, the G65, is slated to begin production in August 2026 and will feature Neue Klasse-inspired styling and advanced technology.
The iX5 will join a variety of powertrains, including gasoline, hybrid, diesel, and potentially hydrogen-powered options. Diesel engines will likely be available outside the US, with rear- and all-wheel drive options at the entry level (X5 40). The iX5 Hydrogen model is expected to launch in 2028, but the sales start date for the battery electric tesla model y rival, the iX5, remains unconfirmed.
BMW is also developing an iX5 Rex, a range-extended model promising over 1,000 kilometers of range. Gas engines will include six- and eight-cylinder models, with at least two hybrid options (50e xDrive and M60e xDrive) available. The iX5 will be offered in three distinct grades: 50 xDrive, 60 xDrive, and M70 xDrive. The new X5 will be larger than the current G05 model, with long wheelbase versions available in China.
The next-generation BMW X5, the G65, is set to enter production in 2026 with a wide range of powertrain options, including the first fully electric bmw x5. With its Neue Klasse-inspired design and advanced technology, the new X5 promises an exciting future for BMW enthusiasts. Production is estimated to run through 2035, indicating a longer than usual production cycle.
