In the winter of 2010-2011, a poll was conducted on a popular platform to determine the most popular e-reader brand among its tech-savvy visitors. The results revealed an intriguing landscape of the e-reader market at the time.

The poll results showed a significant gap between the top 5 e-reader brands and the rest of the field. Amazon's Kindle, Sony Reader, Barnes & Noble Nook, and Kobo dominated the top percentile, accounting for most of the votes cast.

Amazon came in second place with 144 votes, a testament to the Kindle's popularity and the company's status as the largest eBook store in the world. The tech giant's inventory shortage in December 2010, however, affected its position in the poll.

Barnes & Noble secured the first place with 167 votes, with the Nook Color and the Nook WIFI being the top-selling models in the poll. Sony's success came from the PRS-650 and the PRS-350 e-readers, while Kobo ranked third with 111 votes, thanks to its reader application's wide reach and its app coming pre-bundled on devices like the Sharper Image Literati.

Pandigital came in fourth place with 90 votes, despite not having its own ebook store. The company makes money by selling its Novel line of tablets. Sony secured the fifth place with 88 votes, despite lacking a dedicated ebook store and relying on users to buy books on a computer and transfer them to the device via USB.

A significant number of respondents (69 votes) indicated they had e-readers not listed in the poll, suggesting a diverse and fragmented market beyond the top 5 brands. Kobo also planned to expand its app to the Playbook by RIM, HTC Tablet, and many more in 2011.

In conclusion, the e-reader market in 2011 was dominated by Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook, Sony Reader, and Kobo. These brands were the major players, with Kindle typically ranked #1 due to its popularity and ecosystem. The poll results also highlighted the importance of having a dedicated ebook store for building brand identity.

Technology played a significant role in the winter of 2010-2011, as the popular poll revealed the top e-reader brands among tech-savvy visitors. Notable gadgets included the Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook, Sony Reader, and Kobo e-readers. Despite some challenges, the Amazon Kindle remained popular, solidifying its status as a key player in the technology market for e-readers.
