In a bid to ensure safer and more transparent gambling experiences for players, the Brazilian authorities have rolled out a series of regulations for legal online sports betting operators. The Ministry of Economy, through its designated regulatory bodies, is responsible for overseeing these platforms.

Under the new rules, all legal operators must use the ".bet.br" domain, a move aimed at distinguishing them from illegal operators and making it easier for authorities to monitor activities. This also helps in cutting down on fraud that is often associated with unregulated betting platforms.

To further prevent underage access, legal operators are mandated to implement facial recognition and document checks. They are also required to monitor high-risk behaviour and provide responsible gambling tools such as spending limits, time caps, and self-exclusion options.

IBJR, the licensing authority for online sports betting in Brazil, emphasises the importance of these measures. Fernando Vieira, the Executive President of IBJR, values tools and technologies that spread knowledge about the betting sector. He considers BetAlert, a service expected to be widely used by bettors and Brazilian society, to be extremely important.

The regulations also stipulate that legal operators can only allow deposits through PIX or direct debits from registered bank accounts. The use of credit cards and cryptocurrencies is prohibited.

These measures are part of Brazil's ongoing efforts to formalise regulations for legal online sports betting. With the Ministry of Economy and related agencies expected to supervise licensing and compliance, the country is moving towards a more regulated and safer betting environment. The goal is to ensure that people have access to all the benefits of regulation, with safety being a core aspect.
