Britain launches covert online platform aimed at recruiting foreign intelligence agents amidst dark web operations

The UK has taken a significant step towards enhancing its security measures, with the launch of a new portal dubbed 'Silent Courier'. This portal, designed for secure communication with the UK's intelligence agency, MI6, is aimed at anyone with sensitive information related to terrorism or hostile intelligence activities.

The initiative, announced by Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper, underscores the need for the UK to stay ahead of its adversaries, particularly in the face of deepening tensions over the war in Ukraine and the warnings of outgoing MI6 chief Richard Moore about a potential campaign of Russian sabotage in Europe.

The 'Silent Courier' portal emphasises the importance of anonymity and security to protect users' identities. Users are encouraged to use devices and email accounts not linked to themselves to avoid raising suspicions. If Tor is banned in a user's country, they are advised to use VPNs instead. The advice for accessing the portal is posted in multiple languages.

The portal can be accessed through the verified YouTube channel of MI6. The Secret Intelligence Service, known globally through Ian Fleming's fictional agent James Bond, has emphasised the use of the secure Tor browser to access the dark web when using the portal.

Yvette Cooper also announced efforts to bolster MI6's recruitment of new spies, specifically in Russia and worldwide. Outgoing MI6 chief Richard Moore, who launched the portal, invited potential spies to use it. However, the responsibility for managing the 'Silent Courier' portal for contacting informants has not been disclosed in the provided search results.

This move comes at a time when the UK is emphasising the need for vigilance and security in the face of potential threats. Users are urged to use this secure platform to contribute to the safety and security of the nation. The article is copyrighted by AFP in 2025.
