Businesses in Australia struggle with obscurity when it comes to automating their operations and infrastructure processes
ManageEngine, a leading IT management company, has released a study titled "Digital Marketing Intensity in Australia Study." The research, conducted by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), sheds light on the digital transformation journeys of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) in Australia.
According to the study, SMEs are shifting towards modern technology infrastructure to maintain their competitive edge. An astounding 90% of Australian organizations expect to implement up to 60 new applications, tools, or platforms in their infrastructure over the next 12 months.
Prioritising Critical Alerts
The study also reveals that more than half of those surveyed (54%) identified infrastructure modernisation as the primary focus of the organization's digital marketing strategy. As a result, 48% of respondents are adopting additional data prioritisation and filtering methods to differentiate critical alerts from noise.
The Need for IT Observability
IT observability, a proactive approach to identifying root causes, spotting anomalies before they disrupt service, and keeping systems resilient, is becoming increasingly important for tech teams. This approach enables organizations to deliver consistent digital experiences for customers and empowers teams to confidently explore new technologies.
Tim Sheedy, principal advisor at Ecosystm, emphasises that IT observability involves understanding systems, not just monitoring them. He further adds that this approach helps organisations overcome the challenges of limited visibility (30%) and alert fatigue (25%) that currently plague technology leaders despite using IT monitoring tools/platforms.
Addressing Key Concerns
The key concern for 52% of organisations is cost reductions as the top business priority for the next 12 months. Enhancing security, powering resilience, maximising productivity, and reducing cost are the reasons behind embracing IT observability over traditional monitoring.
The expanding technology architecture, characterised by a proliferation of applications and diverse cloud usage, has heightened the demand for IT support. However, the study reveals that most SMEs have low rates of end-to-end business process (14%) and infrastructure automation (18%) monitoring, revealing worrying visibility gaps.

The study underscores the urgency for SMEs to adopt advanced technologies to ensure relevance in an evolving digital marketing landscape. Srinivasa Raghavan Santhanam, from ManageEngine, stated that there's been a strong push for data-driven decision-making to provide actionable insights for maximising productivity and powering resilience.
