BYD Makes Green Mobility Debut in Pakistan with Shark Hybrid Pickup Truck

Chinese automaker BYD has made a significant entry into Pakistan's automotive market with the launch of the BYD Shark, the country's first hybrid pickup truck. The launch, which took place on August 17, 2024, also marked the introduction of two other models - the all-electric Atto 3 and the Seal EV.

The BYD Shark, locally named the BYD Shark 6, is available in Pakistan in a single Premium variant. This hybrid pickup truck is not unfamiliar to the global market, as it has already been introduced in countries such as Brazil, Cambodia, Australia, and Peru. In China, the Atto 3 is known as the Yuan Plus, while the Sealion 6 is called the Song Plus DM-i.

BYD is building a new NEV (New Energy Vehicle) factory near Karachi, Pakistan, in collaboration with Mega Motor, a subsidiary of Pakistan Hub Power. The factory, which began construction in April 2025, is expected to have an initial production capacity of about 25,000 vehicles annually. The factory will initially operate on a double-shift work schedule.

Danish Khaliq, BYD Pakistan's vice president of sales and strategy, revealed that the factory will be the hub for assembling cars in Pakistan, starting from 2026. He also announced that BYD plans to launch its first EV (electric vehicle) assembled in Pakistan by July or August 2026.

The BYD Shark is equipped with BYD's DMO (Dual Motor Output) technology, ensuring a smooth and efficient driving experience. The starting price of the BYD Shark in Pakistan is 19,950,000 Pakistani Rupees, equivalent to approximately $70,420, given an exchange rate of $1 = RMB 283.05 on July 24, 2024.

The launch of the BYD Shark in Pakistan marks a milestone for BYD's entry into Pakistan's new energy pickup truck market. This move reflects the company's commitment to enabling global green mobility with Chinese products.

Reuters reported the announcement about the factory and the first EV launch on July 24, 2024. The BYD Shark pickup truck was also launched in Mexico on May 14, 2024.
