BYD to Introduce Sealion 06 SUV in July's Final Stretch

The Chinese automotive giant, BYD, has announced that its highly anticipated Sealion 06 SUV will officially hit the market in late July 2025. The vehicle will be available in both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) versions, catering to a wide range of environmentally-conscious consumers.

Key specifications of the Sealion 06 reveal a vehicle that is both spacious and aerodynamically efficient. Measuring 4,810 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm, the SUV offers ample interior space while maintaining a sleek profile.

The PHEV variant utilises BYD's Super DM-i Technology, boasting a combined output of approximately 160 kW and 300 Nm torque. Notable features include a panoramic sunroof, full driver assistance systems, electric front seats, and a cargo space of 550-600 litres. Ventilated seats are available for the front occupants only. The SUV is front-wheel drive with a single exhaust on each side.

The BEV version offers single-motor and dual-motor options. The single-motor variant's power ranges from 170 kW to 180 kW, while the dual-motor configuration delivers 110 kW from the front motor and 180 kW from the rear.

The PHEV version features a 1.5L engine with a maximum power output of 74 kW, complementing the single motor's 160 kW. The PHEV is expected to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in approximately 8.5 seconds and boast an over 1000 km combined range, thanks to BYD's DM-i technology.

The Sealion 06 is positioned slightly larger than the Sealion 05 and is expected to be priced between RMB 160,000 and RMB 200,000 in China, aligning with the price range of the existing Sealion family, which spans from RMB 102,800 to RMB 239,800. Pricing details for specific models within the Sealion 06 range have yet to be disclosed.

The Sealion 06 will be built on BYD's fifth-generation DM hybrid technology and e-Platform 3.0 Evo platform, further cementing the vehicle's position as a testament to BYD's EV and hybrid technology expertise.

The Sealion 06 is set to expand the Sealion family lineup, which currently comprises the Sealion 07 EV, Sealion 07 DM-i, Sealion 05 DM-i, and Sealion 05 EV. The first model in the family, the Sealion 07 EV, was launched on May 10, 2024.
