Carport solar panels to soften construction sector turmoil
In the heart of Bispingen, Germany, the family business of Volker Meyer, specialists in window and door elements, has expanded its operations with a new hall. This investment, totalling around six million euros, is aimed at the development of soundproof barriers for heat pumps, a testament to the company's commitment to sustainability.
For seven generations, the Volker Meyer family business has been a cornerstone of the region, supplying customers throughout Germany, including large-scale developers and prefabricated house manufacturers like Viebrockhaus and Wagner. The latest addition to their portfolio is a novel concept: photovoltaic carport systems. These innovative structures aim to generate energy from the sun, protect cars from heat, and double the use of sealed areas.
The idea behind these systems has already gained traction, with the state of Lower Saxony expressing interest. The electricity generated on the surfaces of these carport systems can be of significant interest to commercial customers for self-consumption or feeding into the public grid.
However, the construction industry is currently facing a crisis, with order cancellations of 50 percent reported by Volker Meyer. In an attempt to compensate for these losses, the family business aims to gain 15 to 20 million euros through new customers. Moritz Meyer, ensuring the eighth generation of the family business, is confident about their potential.
Despite the challenges, the works at HM-Werke continue unabated. The window construction at the company is already prepared in modular form, ensuring efficient on-site work. The new hall, too, is designed in a modular manner, making it suitable for the production of soundproof barriers for heat pumps.
HM-Werke also has its sights set on supermarkets and municipal utilities as potential customers for its photovoltaic carport systems. In fact, similar installations of photovoltaic carports have been made by municipal utilities in Munster.
