China Mobile Shanghai Launches 5G-A Experience Package for Shenhua Fans

China Mobile Shanghai has launched an innovative 5G-A experience package in collaboration with Shanghai Shenhua Football Club, marking a potential shift in telecom operators' revenue growth strategies. The package, powered by Huawei's AI and GainLeap solutions, offers enhanced network performance and fan-specific benefits to subscribers.

The '5G-A Exclusive Package for Shenhua Football Fans' provides network performance guarantees, access to matches via Migu streaming service, and other fan-specific perks. During a recent match, subscribers achieved download speeds of up to 600 Mbps, with the network handling 80,000 simultaneous users. Huawei's GainLeap solution identifies 5G-A subscribers and allocates them a high-speed 3CC channel, differentiating premium subscribers from standard ones.

The initiative raises questions about the future of 5G-A network monetisation strategies. By offering experience-based packages for specific user communities, such as Shenhua fans, telecom operators can drive quality growth in saturated markets. China Mobile Shanghai's target of serving 200,000 Shenhua fans provides a measurable benchmark for assessing the commercial viability of this approach. The carrier conducted comprehensive network upgrades at the stadium, doubling overall network capacity and eliminating coverage dead spots.

The demonstration at Shanghai Stadium on September 21, 2025, showcased a 5G-A network monetisation strategy by China Mobile Shanghai powered by Huawei's GainLeap solution and intelligent wireless infrastructure. This approach addresses the challenge of driving quality growth in saturated markets by creating value through enhanced experiences in specific use-cases. As the first carrier in China to launch a differentiated 5G-A experience package for football fans, China Mobile Shanghai paves the way for a new era of network monetisation strategies.
