Chinese automaker BYD launches sales of the SONG L GT model within the domestic market
The automotive world is abuzz with the upcoming release of the BYD Song L GT, a new addition to BYD's impressive lineup. This plug-in hybrid SUV is poised to make waves with its innovative features and impressive performance.
Based on the popular BYD Song L EV, the Song L GT is initially offered with two rear-wheel-drive versions. The lower-power version provides a power output of 170 kW, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in about 5.9 seconds, and has a top speed of 210 km/h. The higher-performing version, on the other hand, boasts a power output of 230 kW, a top speed of 255 km/h, and maintains a similar acceleration time.
The Song L GT's power comes from BYD's DM super hybrid system, which combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with dual electric motors, producing a total output of 426 horsepower. The vehicle is equipped with a 37.8 kWh blade battery, allowing an electric-only range of up to 150 km on the NEDC cycle, and a total hybrid range of over 1,200 km based on the CLTC standard.
One of the standout features of the Song L GT is its spacious and comfortable interior, designed for long journeys. The vehicle measures 4,840 mm in length with a 2,930 mm wheelbase, offering ample space for its 5-seat configuration.
The Song L GT also boasts a sleek, aerodynamic design, employing advanced materials for chassis and battery protection, such as high-strength manganese steel and aluminum-magnesium alloys. It also comes with a standard LiDAR radar, allowing for partial autonomous driving.
BYD is set to launch a 1 MW charging network for the Song L GT platform, enabling the battery to be charged in just 5 minutes. However, details about its European availability or official market entry remain unconfirmed, though export is possible.
The Song L GT is equipped with a large 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen running BYD’s DiLink 4.0 smart cockpit with an open Android system for app installation. It also features V2L (vehicle-to-load) external power discharge capability at 3.3 kW, enabling the car to power external devices.
With its powerful hybrid drivetrain, advanced connected and smart cockpit features, external charging power output (V2L), and modern design, the BYD Song L GT is shaping up to be a competitive smart hybrid SUV. Its success in the Chinese market is already evident, with the SONG range from BYD selling 59,000 units in June alone.
