Conservative Activist Charlie Kirk Dies After Campus Shooting

Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old co-founder of Turning Point USA, a conservative student organization, has died after being shot on a university campus in Orem, Utah. Kirk, known for his controversial views and support for former President Donald Trump, was shot on September 10 and passed away a few hours later in the hospital.

The incident occurred during a discussion event at Utah Valley University. Kirk was a prominent figure in the conservative movement and often made headlines for his divisive statements. He supported Trump's false claim that the 2020 election was stolen and co-organized an event preceding the January 6, 2021, storming of the Capitol.

Following Kirk's death, numerous false claims and manipulated images have surfaced online. An old image of US actress Sydney Sweeney in a Turning Point USA T-shirt, which is not available in the organization's online store, has been circulating. Similarly, manipulated images and false quotes have been spreading, exploiting the topic for disinformation. Prominent figures like Mick Jagger and Metallica's James Hetfield have been falsely depicted in mourning for Kirk, with AI-generated images supporting these claims. Even an event supposedly attended by US rappers Eminem, Dr. Dre, 50 Cent, and Snoop Dogg paying tribute to Kirk has been debunked, with no media reports confirming its existence.

Charlie Kirk's death has sparked an outpouring of condolences from his supporters, but it has also been exploited for disinformation. False claims and manipulated images have been circulating, highlighting the need for vigilance in verifying information, especially during sensitive times.
