Coros' Nomad smartwatch doubles as a tracking device and travel logbook, much like Garmin's offerings.

New Outdoor Smartwatch, Coros Nomad, Offers Advanced Mapping and Fishing Features

The Coros Nomad, a rugged outdoor smartwatch, is now available for $349 / £319 / AU$659 through Coros and select retail partners. This device stands out in the market, particularly when compared to the Garmin Instinct 3, with its full-color offline maps, geo-tagged voice notes, and comprehensive fishing modes.

Weighing just 49g, the Coros Nomad features a 1.3-inch always-on Memory-in-Pixel touchscreen. It offers more than 40 sport modes, including eight dedicated fishing modes, and comes with topographic maps with street names and POIs. Additionally, it provides real-time environmental data such as moon phase, tides, air pressure, and temperature.

One of the key features of the Coros Nomad is the Adventure Journal. This feature allows users to drop voice pins during activities, which are then transcribed and saved in the COROS app. It also saves maps, stats, geotagged photos or videos from adventures, helping users to relive their outdoor experiences. Users can even pin hotspots like submerged logs or rocky outcrops directly to their route.

The Coros Nomad is available in three colors: Green, Brown, and Dark Grey. It features dual-frequency GPS (L1 + L5) for accurate tracking and offers a battery life of up to 50 hours in GPS mode or 22 days of daily use.

On the other hand, the Garmin Instinct 3, while offering a longer battery life (up to 40+ days smartwatch mode, 150+ hours GPS), AMOLED and solar display options, a built-in LED flashlight, solar charging for extended battery life, and access to Garmin’s extensive Connect IQ app ecosystem, including Garmin Pay and music streaming support, comes at a higher price point.

In conclusion, the Coros Nomad and Garmin Instinct 3 cater to different needs. The Coros Nomad excels in its advanced offline mapping, media features (voice notes, music storage), fishing modes, and competitive pricing, making it a great choice for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a comprehensive and affordable smartwatch. The Garmin Instinct 3, with its superior battery life, rugged hardware options, extended Garmin ecosystem, and solar charging, is a superior choice for those prioritizing battery life and extended functionality.
