Corporate Finances Near Call for Incorporation of Bitcoin

In a significant development for the cryptocurrency industry, a recent research by Nickel Digital Asset Management has revealed a growing trend and strong institutional support for S&P 500 companies adopting Bitcoin as a reserve asset.

The survey of institutional investors and wealth managers found that nearly half (49%) expect at least 10% of S&P 500 firms to hold Bitcoin on their balance sheets, with an additional 51% anticipating between 5% and 10% adoption. This means that over 86% of respondents favor publicly listed companies holding Bitcoin as a reserve asset, while only about 1% oppose it.

This trend reflects a strategic response to fiat debasement, balance sheet optimization, and shareholder alignment, rather than speculation. In fact, 18% of respondents strongly favor this move, while 13% remain neutral.

The rising institutional adoption is backed by clearer regulatory frameworks, growing acceptance of Bitcoin as a macro asset, and government initiatives such as the U.S. Strategic Bitcoin Reserve announced in 2025. This regulatory clarity and institutional demand contribute to a bullish environment encouraging more S&P 500 companies to consider Bitcoin as a treasury asset.

Leading the way is US software firm Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy), which remains the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin. Companies in other countries such as the UK, Japan, and France are also beginning similar allocations. In fact, corporate Bitcoin holdings have surged by approximately 170% over the past year, reaching around 3.2% of the total Bitcoin supply.

Anatoly Crachilov, CEO of Nickel Digital, predicts that Bitcoin will increasingly feature as a digital reserve asset in modern corporate finance, and institutional investors anticipate this trend to continue.

In summary, Nickel Digital's research points to a notable and accelerating trend among S&P 500 companies to adopt Bitcoin on corporate balance sheets, supported by strong institutional investor confidence and regulatory tailwinds. This shift is set to transform the landscape of corporate finance in the coming years.
