To build this cleaning disk, start by dismantling a standard floppy disk, removing the magnetic platter from the spindle. Cut a disc of Tyvek material, a spunbonded olefin recommended by a related US patent, to fit the spindle. Securely attach the Tyvek disc onto the spindle using super glue. Reassemble and glue the disk’s plastic housing back together, labelling it as a cleaning disk.
To use the new cleaning disk, place a few drops of isopropyl alcohol on the Tyvek disc and insert the disk into the floppy drive. The materials used in this cleaning disk, similar to Dupont Tyvek, are suitable for the task due to being spunbonded polyester or olefin, as suggested by the US patent.
