Da Nang Approves $1.7B Lien Chieu Container Port Project
Da Nang is set to enhance its maritime capabilities with the Lien Chieu Container Port project. The city's People's Committee has approved the development, with an estimated investment of VND45,000 billion ($1.7 billion).
A consortium led by Hateco Group JSC, Hateco Seaport Co., Ltd., and APM Terminals B.V. has submitted a proposal for the port's development. The project, approved in May 2025, aims to alleviate road congestion by facilitating cargo transshipment through dedicated barge berths, accommodating vessels and barges up to 5,000 tons.
The port will boast eight container berths, stretching 2,750 meters, capable of handling container vessels up to 18,000 TEUs. Once operational, it is expected to have an annual capacity of approximately 5.7 million TEUs, equivalent to around 74 million tons. Direct rail connectivity to the national railway network and a centralized truck yard are also planned.
Spanning over 172 hectares, including 146 hectares of land and 25 hectares of water surface in Hai Van ward, the port will feature a system of warehouses, container yards, operations offices, and repair workshops. Da Nang is exploring cooperation with international partners like Royal Boskalis Westminster NV for this infrastructure project. The development will be carried out in three phases, with the first phase slated for completion by the fourth quarter of 2028.
The Lien Chieu Container Port project, once completed, will significantly enhance Da Nang's port capacity and connectivity, contributing to the city's economic growth and trade activities.
