Wishing everyone a Happy New Year! I understand that the festivities are keeping everyone busy, so let's get straight into the puzzle.

NYT Mini is the smaller, more manageable, quicker version of the larger and more complex NYT Crossword. It's a bite-sized treat that doesn't require a subscription to The New York Times. You can play it online or via the app, but the archive section requires the app.

Here are the answers to today's Mini Crossword...

Warning: Spoilers ahead!

ACROSS

1 - The first month of the new year in early 3-Down calendars - MARCH

6 - To love someone immensely - ADORE

7 - Manufacturer of Ironman Triathlon watches - TIMEX

8 - To stop - CEASE

9 - To search for - HUNTS

DOWN

1 - Soccer match - MATCH

2 - French farewell - ADIEU

3 - Like Janus, the god of beginnings - ROMAN

4 - Feature on a cockatoo's head - CREST

5 - Unpleasant magic spells - HEXES

This puzzle is quite straightforward if you know two things - that the New Year once began in MARCH and that TIMEX is the maker of Ironman Triathlon watches. I knew the first but not the second. Once you have these two, the rest falls into place pretty easily. However, if you don't, you'll need to be a bit more methodical. I managed to solve it in 1:33 minutes. Happy New Year to all!
