New Mahindra Bolero Set for a Bold Design Update, Tamil Nadu Facility to Produce Electric SUVs

The Indian automotive landscape is gearing up for another exciting update, with the upcoming Mahindra Bolero set to undergo a significant transformation. The long-standing vehicle, a staple in India, is expected to receive its next generation update, bringing it closer to modern SUVs in terms of presence.

Multiple sightings of the new Bolero during testing suggest a departure from the current-gen model's aesthetics. The design update is likely to be the boldest ever seen for the nameplate, with the new Bolero appearing more sophisticated, featuring sharper edges, refined surfaces, and beefier wheels. Notable changes include flush-fitting door handles and redesigned mirrors.

The specific details about the features and changes in the new Mahindra Bolero have not been disclosed yet. However, the design development remains true to the upright profile of the Bolero, ensuring its iconic silhouette remains intact.

Meanwhile, in a separate development, VinFast, the Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer, has inaugurated its first electric vehicle assembly factory in India, located in SIPCOT Industrial Park, Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. This factory is part of VinFast's larger plan to sell 200,000 cars worldwide by 2025 and increase annual production to 10 lakh EVs by 2030.

The Tamil Nadu facility, VinFast's first manufacturing facility in India and its third globally, focuses on producing premium electric SUVs—the VF 6 and VF 7 models. The company plans to expand the Tamil Nadu facility into its largest export hub servicing South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, supporting both domestic growth and regional exports.

VinFast’s wider plan is to build production capacity across multiple countries, with Tamil Nadu playing a major export and production role, to reach 1 million EVs annually worldwide by 2030. This forms part of its long-term industrial targets set after inaugurating its new EV assembly plant in Tamil Nadu, India.

In other news, Tata Motors has begun deliveries of the Tata Harrier EV in India. The electric SUV is available in three broad trim levels - Adventure, Fearless, and Empowered, along with the Stealth Edition. Priced between ₹21.49 lakh and ₹29.74 lakh, the Tata Harrier EV was launched in June 2025.

As the automotive industry in India continues to evolve, we can expect more updates and innovations in the coming months. The launch of the new Mahindra Bolero on August 15 is sure to be one of the highlights, marking another significant step in India's automotive landscape.
