Danger of drones warned in Krasnodar region on August 1st
In the early hours of August 1, 2025, the tranquillity of Kuban was disrupted by a series of unexpected events. A drone danger alert was issued at midnight, sending residents into a state of alert.
The emergency alerts, delivered via the MES app, warned residents in Krasnodar, Slaviansk district, Novorossiysk, and Primorsko-Akhtarsk of a potential drone attack. It's crucial to remain calm during such alerts and follow the instructions provided by local authorities.
As the night wore on, the situation escalated dramatically. Sochi, the renowned Russian resort city, became the target of a significant drone attack. The assault hit an oil depot in the Adler district near Sochi International Airport, causing a massive fire at the Rosneft-Kubannefteprodukt oil facility.
The drone strike, attributed to Ukrainian forces, resulted in the temporary suspension of flights at Sochi Airport. Air defenses reportedly intercepted and shot down 21 drones during this attack, but debris from one drone struck the oil depot, triggering the blaze.
The attack caused thick black smoke across the city and resulted in casualties—11 people injured and two fatalities. Public alerts, such as air raid sirens and warnings, were issued throughout the region during the attack, with witnesses reporting over 20 explosions.
The assault also caused damage in surrounding areas, including minor destruction to garages and a commercial building near the depot, as well as other drone strikes on Russian military and industrial targets in nearby regions like Primorsko-Akhtarsk and Penza.
Local officials, including Krasnodar Governor Mikhail Kotyukov, confirmed that 127 personnel and 35 vehicles were involved in extinguishing the fire caused by the drone strike. This attack follows a similar drone strike on July 24 that targeted another oil facility in Adler, underscoring Ukraine’s increasing capability and focus on targeting Russian oil infrastructure in Kuban.
During a drone danger alert, it's advised to stay vigilant and be cautious. If outdoors, take cover in the nearest building, parking lot, or underground passage. If in a vehicle, exit and take cover in the nearest building or protected area, or in natural depressions. It's important not to use any electronic devices that could interfere with the drone's signals.
After receiving the all-clear signal, residents should return to their normal activities cautiously. If you witness any unusual drone activity, it is important to report it to the authorities. If you spot any type of drone or suspicious objects in your vicinity, call 112. It is not advisable to approach drone debris under any circumstances.
The first drone danger alert of the day was canceled around 6:00 AM on August 1. If indoors during a drone danger alert, move away from windows and take cover in a non-glass room (hallway, storage room).
This incident marks a significant escalation in Ukrainian drone warfare against long-range targets within Russia, highlighting the need for continued vigilance and adherence to safety protocols during drone danger alerts.
