Deep concerns about the design of the iPhone Air persist, with associated accessories exacerbating the issue
Apple has announced its latest addition to the iPhone family, the iPhone 15 Air. Claiming it to be the most durable iPhone ever made, the ultra-thin device boasts flagship-level performance and a design that echoes Apple's focus on aesthetics over hardware prowess in the early 2010s.
The iPhone 15 Air's thin design, while impressive, raises concerns about its durability, especially in light of past issues like the iPhone 6's "Bendgate". To address these concerns, Apple has reintroduced the Bumper case, a protective accessory not seen since the iPhone 4. The Bumper case is designed to protect the iPhone 15 Air's edges and corners from accidental damage, while complementing its thin design with a way to attach the new Crossbody strap.
Transparent plastic or silicone cases, common alternatives, inevitably tarnish over time. The Bumper case, however, is made to last, remaining pristine even after prolonged use.
In addition to the Bumper case, Apple has also announced a special MagSafe battery pack for the iPhone 15 Air. The MagSafe battery pack is designed to complement the iPhone 15 Air's ultra-thin design and can be used exclusively for the device. The release of the MagSafe battery pack comes as no surprise, given Apple's focus on offering dedicated protective accessories to enhance the user experience.
However, the iPhone 15 Air's battery life is expected to be lower than the iPhone 17. This is not uncommon for ultra-thin devices, and the MagSafe battery pack aims to mitigate this issue by providing an additional power source when needed.
The iPhone 15 Air's design and accompanying accessories, such as the Bumper case and MagSafe battery pack, will be available starting September 19, 2025, at the official Apple Store. As the release of the iPhone 15 Air approaches, it remains to be seen how many sacrifices were made to achieve the phone's design. One thing is certain, though: Apple's commitment to durability and user experience shines through in the iPhone 15 Air's design and accessories.
