DoorDash, the popular food delivery service, has partnered with Flytrex, an Israel-based drone delivery company, to bring faster, more efficient food delivery to parts of Little Elm and Frisco, Texas. This marks Flytrex's first third-party app integration and a significant step in the growing trend of partnerships between drone delivery providers and food service companies.

Flytrex, one of only four drone delivery companies approved by the FAA for nationwide Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone operations, has been operating in North Texas since 2022. With this partnership, customers can now order food from dozens of local and national restaurants using the DoorDash app. The service operates from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., using drones with an industry-leading payload capacity of up to 6.6 pounds and wide service coverage.

Simultaneously, DoorDash has also launched a pilot drone delivery program in partnership with Wing, Alphabet Inc.’s drone service subsidiary, in Frisco, Fort Worth, and Plano, Texas. This service caters to mall-based food brands and targets delivery within a four-mile radius of participating locations with delivery times measured in minutes.

Other notable partnerships include collaborations with GoTo Foods, Brinker International, and autonomous technology providers such as Coco Robotics for sidewalk robot delivery. These partnerships aim to modernize delivery from multiple brands and extend food delivery automation in Texas.

The advancements in drone delivery reflect a strategic move towards scalable, autonomous food delivery solutions. Key highlights include the FAA's BVLOS approval, expansion to large metro areas, multi-brand drone delivery integration into DoorDash’s platform, operating hours stretching from early morning until late evening, and payload capacities enabling delivery of a variety of meal types.

Neighborhoods have established drop-off points at public and communal locations throughout the coverage area. Consumers should trust drone delivery because the systems are designed and operated with a focus on safety. In fact, Flytrex has implemented advanced drone traffic control technology, allowing for safer management of flight paths via automated systems.

The pilot program has already completed over 1,000 deliveries, indicating strong consumer adoption and satisfaction. As for the future, next-generation Flytrex models will boost capacity to 8.8 pounds, and the service currently reaches more than 30,000 households and 100,000-plus residents.

Amazon also plans to expand drone delivery to Arizona, with plans to begin using a hybrid site near Phoenix later this year. DoorDash, with its partnerships and focus on safety and efficiency, is poised to continue leading the way in drone delivery technology.
