Effortless Matching of Scene Elements using Mocha Pro 2024

Prepare for an exciting revelation in the world of visual effects and post-production! Boris FX, a leading provider of integrated VFX and creative solutions, has announced a live stream event scheduled for Thursday, April 4th, at 2 pm ET • 11 am PT • 6 pm UTC. Hosted by Ben Brownlee and his team, this event will provide an in-depth look at the new features and improvements in Mocha Pro 2024.

Mocha Pro 2024 is set to revolutionise the industry with its enhanced focus on planar tracking, rotoscoping, masking, and colour management tools. These updates are designed to streamline visual effects and post-production workflows, making them more efficient and intuitive.

One of the key features of Mocha Pro 2024 is the Area Brush Tool with Quick Mask Mode. This new paint tool allows users to add and subtract paint strokes converted to vector splines, accelerating multi-shape tracking and masking setups. The tool also supports Wacom tablets for pressure-sensitive scaling, making roto work more intuitive and faster.

Mocha Pro's industry-leading planar tracking technology has received further refinements, ensuring reliable tracking in difficult scenarios like reflections, occlusions, motion blur, and low detail areas. The AdjustTrack module further refines tracking accuracy.

The masking workflow in Mocha Pro 2024 uses planar tracked spline tools to speed up shape creation, resulting in fewer manual keyframes needed, improving efficiency.

Mocha Pro 2024 also offers GPU-accelerated object removal, providing faster rendering times for object removal tasks. Additionally, advanced masking tools have been introduced, including magnetic spline tools with edge snapping for more organic and precise masking, plus geometric shape and freehand spline options.

Mocha Pro 2024 continues to support advanced 360/VR workflows, with the inclusion of award-winning 360/VR tools, stereo 360 planar tracking and masking, unique spherical 360 workspace, horizon stabilization, and stereoscopic masking tools such as Anaglyph view and L/H Hero mode.

Industry-standard colour management has been added with OpenColorIO, improving colour display consistency across workflows and compatible with Academy Color Encoding Specification (ACES). This enhances integration with applications like Silhouette, Foundry’s NUKE, Autodesk Flame, and Avid Media Composer.

Although technically part of later 2025 updates, the release cycle includes significant usability improvements like face tracking and a new 3D Snap Tool to assist with accuracy in 3D compositing.

Mocha Pro 2024 also offers major render speed increases and improved tracking accuracy. Pricing for Mocha Pro 2024 starts at $295/year or $37/month.

There will be giveaways during the live stream, including subscriptions to the Boris FX Suite ($1295) or Mocha Pro ($595). If you're in Vegas in April, you can visit the Mocha Pro 2024 release showcase at SL9034.

Mocha Pro 2024 is now available as a plugin for Adobe After Effects & Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, Autodesk Flame, Blackmagic Fusion, Foundry Nuke, VEGAS Pro, and more. A guide on how to get 3D tracking data out of Mocha Pro and into After Effects is available, including sample workflows for adding 3D elements and realistic lighting.
