Electric Dodge Charger Muscle Car Faces Recall Due to Excessive Silence

The Dodge Charger Daytona electric muscle car is being recalled due to an issue with pedestrian warning sounds at low speeds. The recall affects 8,390 two-door Charger Daytona models from the 2024 and 2025 model years, as some vehicles may lack the necessary software in their amplifiers to produce the required auditory warnings.

This issue violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 141, which requires hybrid and electric vehicles to emit a minimum level of noise to alert pedestrians of their presence. The purpose of the FMVSS sound emission rule is to reduce injuries resulting from electric and hybrid vehicle crashes with pedestrians.

To address this issue, Dodge encourages owners to take their vehicles to a dealership for a software update. The dealership will inspect and update the amplifier software to ensure that the vehicle emits the required auditory warnings.

The Dodge Charger Daytona EV features a "Fratzonic Chambered Exhaust" system, designed to replicate the sound and sensations of a V-8 muscle car. The system uses dual passive radiators and a 600-watt amplifier. However, the recall is not related to the Fratzonic system, and it will continue to operate as intended.

The Stealth Mode of the Fratzonic system mutes the system completely, allowing drivers to enjoy a quieter ride when desired. The Charger Daytona EV offers various settings for the Fratzonic system, including Drag, Track, Donut Modes, and a Stealth Mode.

Matt McAlear, Dodge brand CEO, stated that the Charger Daytona's Fratzonic system delivers an adrenaline-pumping experience. He added that the recall is unrelated to the Fratzonic system and is being addressed promptly to ensure the safety of all road users.

Owners of the affected Charger Daytona cars will be notified directly by Dodge. The recall was reported by Dodge to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

In summary, the Dodge Charger Daytona EV is being recalled due to insufficient sound levels at low speeds, which violates FMVSS regulations. The recall affects 2024 to 2025 model years of the Dodge Charger Daytona EV, and owners are encouraged to take their vehicles to a dealership to have the issue resolved promptly.
