Electric transformation of Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: Extending range to an impressive 600 kilometers

The Japanese automaker Mitsubishi has made a significant stride in the electric vehicle (EV) market with the launch of its latest offering, the Eclipse Cross. This SUV, part of Mitsubishi's expanding portfolio, will be manufactured at the Ampere plant in Douai, France, thanks to the support of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.

The Eclipse Cross, with a length of 4.47 meters, boasts a brand-typical front featuring a honeycomb structure and a hexagonal rear, and a J-shaped line defines its silhouette. This electric SUV will be available with two battery sizes at launch: the 87-kWh variant, equipped with a 160-kW motor (218 hp), offering a range of approximately 600 kilometers and accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.4 seconds. A model with a smaller battery pack will be available at a later date.

The 87-kWh battery variant of the Eclipse Cross has a top speed of 170 km/h and offers a spacious trunk volume ranging from 478 to 1670 liters. The SUV is equipped with up to 20 assistance systems, including functions for partially automated driving, and rides on 19- or 20-inch wheels, depending on the trim level.

In the cabin, the driver's instruments and the central infotainment display each measure up to 12.3 inches. Options for the Eclipse Cross include an electrochromic glass roof, Google integration, and a premium sound system. The base model of the Eclipse Cross is supplied by Renault with the Scenic Electric.

The launch of the Eclipse Cross marks a significant step for Mitsubishi in the EV market, as it represents the company's first pure electric vehicle since the i-MiEV. This production location allows Mitsubishi to leverage alliance structures for its market entry in Europe.

Production of the new Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will begin in the coming quarter at the Renault plant in Douai, France. With this new addition, Mitsubishi announces two new models for Europe, further expanding its presence in the competitive EV market.
