Electronic passports introduced for the Republic of Suriname by OeSD
The Republic of Suriname has launched a new biometric e-passport, marking an important milestone in the country's identity management system. The Austrian company OeSD, a global leader in secure identity solutions, played a significant role in the production of this innovative passport.
The new Surinamese e-passport boasts advanced security features, ensuring the highest level of identity authentication and protection. Among the notable features is a polycarbonate data page containing true-color UV elements, surface embossing, a transparent window with multi-laser image (MLI) technology, and a secure background print.
The new passport also includes a digitally signed chip storing personal and biometric data such as facial features and fingerprints. This chip conforms to ICAO standards and includes encryption protocols like basic access control (BAC), passive authentication (PA), and extended access control (EAC) to protect holder data.
One of the most striking aspects of the new Surinamese e-passport is its design, which reflects the country's rich heritage. The passport features a depiction of the iconic scarlet ibis and multicoloured intaglio printing with lively depictions of Suriname's flora and fauna.
Prewien Ramadhin, Director of the President's Cabinet for Electronic Government Services, described the new passport as one of the world's most secure and beautifully designed. Mr. Chandrikapersad Santokhi, President of the Republic of Suriname, became the first official holder of the new passport generation.
