Europe Bolsters Eastern Defense with €150 Billion Anti-Drone Wall

Europe is bolstering its eastern defenses with a significant investment in drone detection technology. A €150 billion loan from Europe to its member states will fund projects including an anti-drone wall along the 3,400 km border with Russia and Belarus. This initiative aims to safeguard the entire eastern flank of the EU, particularly between Poland, the Baltic states, and Finland, from drone and aircraft incursions.

Distinguishing harmless objects like birds from drones is vital for effective detection. Thales, a French industrial company, is at the forefront of this technology with its high-tech radars. The French army, equipped with jamming rifles, is also testing a laser to destroy drones at a distance. Meanwhile, Ukraine employs acoustic detectors alongside radars for drone detection.

The planned anti-drone wall will utilize a range of technologies. Nets will capture drones, while jamming systems will neutralize them. Europe is lending €150 billion to member states to improve their eastern defense, with the anti-drone wall being a key project.
