Europol Arrests 4 in Cross-Border ATM Explosion Spree
A joint investigation involving Europol and law enforcement agencies from Germany, the Netherlands, and Austria has led to the arrest of four suspects linked to a series of ATM explosions. The investigation began following an ATM blast in Solingen, Germany, on March 5, 2024.
The suspects, two Dutch nationals aged 28 and 32, and two others aged 19 and 25, were arrested in Austria on August 19, 2025. They are believed to be involved in six ATM explosions across Germany and Austria, causing significant property damage and making off with a mid-six-figure sum.
The investigation, led by Düsseldorf Police, has been ongoing since 2024. A DNA trace led investigators to the two Dutch nationals. Search warrants were executed in Bochum, Germany, and s'Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, resulting in the seizure of extensive evidence. Austrian law enforcement joined the investigation after ATM explosions in their country in February 2025. Europol supported the activities of the involved agencies throughout the investigation.
Arrest warrants were issued and served against the four suspects. The investigation and the evaluation of seized evidence are ongoing. No specific details about a 19-year-old German citizen arrested in connection with the ATM bombings in August 2025 have been made public.
