Facebook Boosts Automatic Alternative Text for Visually-Impaired Users

Facebook has enhanced its Automatic Alternative Text (AAT) feature, making it more accurate and inclusive for visually-impaired users. The improved AI detector can now identify a wide range of details in photos, benefiting millions of users worldwide.

The social media giant has bolstered its AI technology to generate more detailed and accurate descriptions for photos. The new AI detector can recognise over 1,200 concepts, a significant leap from the original 2016 version which could only identify around 100.

The enhanced AI detector can now identify various activities, landmarks, types of animals, and other detailed information. This improvement is a result of training the AI detector on billions of public Instagram images and their hashtags, ensuring better accuracy and inclusivity.

Facebook's improved AAT feature is now more reliable and comprehensive, providing visually-impaired users with detailed descriptions of photos. This update reflects Facebook's commitment to accessibility and inclusivity, benefiting millions of users worldwide.
