Fatigued Conference Held in Coimbra for Software Specialists
JNation 2025 Developer Conference Set for Expansion in Coimbra
The eighth edition of the JNation developer conference, focusing on Java and JavaScript programming languages, will expand this year, according to co-founder Roberto Cortez. The event, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, anticipates hosting over 1,350 participants, a 100-person increase from the previous year, with a waiting list already established for available tickets.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Cortez revealed that the event would attract international participants from approximately 50 countries, representing 10-15% of the total attendees. The event will take place at the Convento São Francisco in Coimbra, Portugal, a popular venue for the annual conference due to its success in previous years.
To accommodate the increased demand, JNation has made changes to the space at Convento São Francisco to increase capacity. However, despite the expansion, the event is at capacity, a welcomed challenge for the city, according to Cortez. JNation 2025 will cover key topics for the software industry, including Cloud & Infrastructure, Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence, Security, Programming Languages, and Development Methodologies.
The first day of the conference will feature six rooms with various topics, while the second day will be dedicated to practical workshops with 24 stands from companies present at the event. Notable speakers include Josh Long, a technology expert with a focus on a technology called 'spring', which is present in over 70% of Java development. Other speakers include Maya Shavin, Daniel Madalitso Phiri, Olena Kutsenko, Thomas Vitale, Marcus Hellberg, Ricardo Ferreira, Eduardo Piairo, Chris Richardson, Atila Fascina, Alina Yurenko, and Simon Ritter.
Cortez expressed interest in creating a "JNation for kids" to coincide with the existing event, though space limitations may pose a challenge. The initiative aims to foster an interest in technology among young people and address the imbalance in the job market, as Cortez noted that only seven women out of 80 entered his university course in Coimbra.
Supporting the growth of JNation, Coimbra Mayor José Manuel Silva stated that the event has transcended the city and national borders, and more space is now required to accommodate the increasing interest. The President of the Union of Freguesias (UF) of Souselas and Botão, Rui Soares, will ensure transportation of participants from Coimbra's Station B to CSF, located on the left bank of the Mondego River.
According to the councillor for Entrepreneurship, Investment, and Employment at Coimbra City Council, Miguel Fonseca, the theme of Artificial Intelligence and its use for the benefit of people could address one of the main weaknesses of the country, which is productivity. For more detailed information, including the full speaker list and schedule, attendees can download the official JNation app.
At the press conference, Cortez mentioned the inclusion of international participants from diverse nations, which may include French attendees, illustrating the global appeal of JNation 2025. Furthermore, amid the expanded event, various workshops will showcase advanced technologies such as Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence, providing an opportunity for participants to delve into the realm of sports-like competition in the tech industry.
