Fiber optic expansion within Weiterstadt to commence in November, as announced by Telekom
Deutsche Telekom is set to expand its fiber optic network in the city of Weiterstadt, Germany, with a total of 12,160 households and businesses set to benefit from the upgrade.
The expansion, scheduled to be completed by around mid-2028, will occur in three phases, starting with Weiterstadt-West and Braunshardt in November 2025. This ambitious project aims to provide significantly higher speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second, transforming the way residents and businesses connect and communicate.
Transparency and professional construction site management are top priorities in the expansion. The construction will be carried out in individual sections to minimize inconvenience for residents. Interested citizens can pre-order their home connection now by choosing a tariff at www.telekom.de/glasfaser and registering for a free home connection.
For companies in Weiterstadt, the hotline (0800 33 06709) is free of charge for more information, while customers can get a free home connection if they book a tariff from Telekom. The city of Weiterstadt and Telekom are working closely together in the expansion.
The expansion will also include the districts of Schneppenhausen, Graefenhausen, and the core city of Weiterstadt. After the expansion of Weiterstadt-West and Braunshardt in 2026, these areas will be equipped with Deutsche Telekom's fiber optic supply. The district to be expanded after Weiterstadt-West and Braunshardt by the end of 2026 will depend on the interest of the population in the respective areas.
Telekom will lay more than 86 kilometers of fiber optic cable directly to the homes and install 118 new network distributors as part of the project. This expansion will not only improve the internet speed for residents and businesses but also pave the way for future technological advancements.
