Figma Introduces Artificial Intelligence Tools for Designer's Use

In a groundbreaking move, Figma, the popular collaborative design platform, has introduced a suite of AI tools designed to revolutionise the design process for UX/UI professionals. These new features, integrated directly into the platform and not reliant on third-party plugins, are set to redefine what collaborative design software can achieve.

The AI tools can be easily activated by clicking on the AI Tools panel and selecting either "Text to Design" or "Smart Wireframe." These tools are not intended to replace designers, but rather to automate tedious parts of the job, freeing up time for more creative pursuits.

One of the standout features is the Text-to-Design Generation. With this tool, designers can generate first draft layouts and full UI mockups simply by typing a description. For instance, typing "Design a mobile login screen with two text fields and a login button" will produce a ready layout that adapts to the designer's brand colours, fonts, and design systems to maintain consistency.

Another significant addition is the Generative Fill for Images. Although Figma is primarily vector-based and doesn’t yet have Adobe Photoshop’s exact generative fill, plugins enable the insertion of AI-generated images or textures into designs, enriching visual creativity.

Figma's AI also offers AI-Powered Search and Organization, allowing designers to intelligently search design files by description or even sketches, helping find specific icons or components quickly, and organise design assets more efficiently.

The AI tools also introduce Automated Prototyping, with a new AI "Make Prototype" feature that can automatically link generated screens into a basic interactive flow with a single action, significantly speeding up prototype creation.

Design can now also be hands-free with Voice Command Support. Commands such as "Align all cards to the left and make the header bold" are executed instantly, facilitating faster and more intuitive editing.

Real-Time Content-Aware Editing and Feedback is another valuable feature, as the AI provides smart suggestions and real-time feedback to improve designs on the fly, helping designers refine their work more effectively.

The AI tools are currently focused on simple, single-screen flows such as dashboards, forms, and sign-up pages. However, more complex multi-screen experiences still require manual design work.

These AI features collectively reduce routine tasks and manual work, allowing designers to focus more on creative aspects and user experience. They enable faster iteration, smarter organisation, and more exploratory design processes, positioning Figma as a leading AI-powered UX/UI tool in 2025.

To access Figma's AI tools, users on Professional, Organization, and Enterprise plans should visit the workspace settings page and check for activation. Free-plan users have limited access via select demo prompts. The company has not confirmed when the AI features will leave beta, but ongoing updates and enthusiastic user feedback suggest sustained focus and development.
